DID YOU KNOW?
February is International Recreational Therapy Month!

If you’ve never heard of Recreational Therapy, you’re not alone. According to the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), it is "a systemic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, as a means to psychological and physical health, recover and well-being".
In other words, recreational therapy literally uses activities and fun to advance the process of rehabilitation, conducted either one-on-one between client and caregiver, or by way of group activities.
If you want to see Recreational Therapy in action and you are a Robin Williams fan, check out the movie "Patch Adams".

Here at West Central Community Center, we have two Supportive Services programs: the Learning Skills Center and the Community Inclusion program. Whether they choose to participate in groups or as individual volunteers out in our community, our clients are supported in experiencing a positive quality of life by our staff here.
